Investigations on Tissue Lipid Peroxidation, Glutathione and Antioxidant Enzyme Levels in the Hippocampus of Adult Rats in Experimental Hypo- and Hyperthyroidism Induced by Propyl Thiouracil (Ptu) and L-Thyroxine

Background: Thyroid hormones (TH) thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) are known to be essential for maintaining optimal cognitive ability in adults. TH deprivation (hypothyroidism) or excess (hyperthyroidism) may alter signaling pathways involved adult hippocampal neurogenesis synaptic plasticity, thus increasing the risk of neurodegenerative disorders leading changes performance.
